Restorative Procedures

Restorations are necessary when a tooth becomes compromised either from bacteria, decay, or force. Restorative procedures include the use of amalgam fillings, resin composite fillings, or crowns. The highest quality of materials are used to restore your tooth back to optimum condition, and prevent decay from spreading further into the tooth.

Restorative Procedures

Resin Composite

Resin Composite is the most popular type of restoration. It uses the most advanced type of dental products to actually bind the filling material to the tooth. This means that not only is the restoration replacing the tooth structure that was compromised by the decay, but it is also bonding and holding the tooth together to become even stronger. Furthermore, this restoration comes in a variety of different tooth-colors so that we can match the restoration to your unique shade. After the decay is completely removed, there are 4 steps to this restoration. The first step is called, “etch,” and this helps open the pores to the teeth and make sure the prepped area is significantly clean of any impurities so that the filling has the best chance of binding successfully. The next steps use a solution to help prime and create the bond for the filling. We like to imagine a zipper that pulls the filling material in close and interlocks it to the tooth. The last step is to pick a shade and fill the tooth back to its original shape. Special hand pieces are used to shape the grooves and you are left with a piece of art that no one would know was ever there.

Amalgam Restoration

An amalgam restoration is referred to as a “silver filling.” It is a mixture of soft metals, which harden over a short period of time. We rarely use amalgam, but there are still some cases that this material is still the best around. For example, if there is a filling that needs to be placed along the gum line, an amalgam filling would be the best material since it can set up under moist conditions; whereas the resin material would not bond properly.

Extractions

If a tooth is no longer able to be restored, you have the option to extract the tooth. Dr. Kevin Wall is one of the most gentle dentists around when it comes to removing teeth. We practice safe protocol to make sure everything goes as smoothly and comfortable as possible. Afterwards, you can expect a quick recovery with no side effects. Furthermore, we will always make sure you leave the office informed and confident of your next options on how to replace your teeth that were just extracted. Again, our goal is to keep you smiling.

Customer Testimonials

I called because a crown came off. They were able to rearrange their schedule to fit me in right away. Thanks for that.

I am relatively new to the area and have been a patient of Dr. Kevin Wall’s for about two years. I have seen my fair share of dentists throughout my life because of extensive dental work necessary, from fillings to bridges to root canals to crowns (many many crowns). I haven’t needed anything major done yet since I moved to NKY, but I like the service I received at Bellevue Family Dental. It’s a nice welcoming place, and Dr. Wall is a compassionate dentist I would recommend.
